PMCC has launched two new campaigns in support of a five year strategic plan that proactively addresses the most pressing marine conservation and community access issues in the California Current ecosystem. The organization is uniquely positioned to do the work required to link conservation of fishing access with conservation of biological resources. Although we operate west coast wide, the initial focus of PMCC's nearshore campaign efforts is in Oregon, as the state lags behind neighboring jursdictions in implementing provisions that protect marine fish populations and associated habitats. We will continue necessary involvement with federal and state management entities, and embark on focused scientific research and fisheries policy activities in support of key recommendations by the Pew Oceans Commission and US Commission on Ocean Policy to adopt an ecosystem approach to marine resource management.
